The core problem is that we are conning Indian students into coming here,
and providing them with next to nothing in the way of services.

On our behalf, advertisers are promising Indians that if they come here,
they will live on Ramsay St next to the beach (so to speak). So these
people give us their life savings.

But of course, when they come here they find they have to live in rented
hovels in the far outer suburban scumbag areas, which is why they they
are over represented in the mugging statistics. Not only that, but they
often have to work night shift on top of studying, just to cover their
living expenses.

I consider the hysterical, hypocritical rants from Indians about
Australians all being racist to be amusingly stupid. But at the end of
the day, if Australia loses one of its biggest exports because it's
conning these people and treating them like cattle, then we really only
have ourselves to blame. We are providing a shoddy service, and conning
people into buying it.

# Indians and others come here, why?

Because -

(a) they can't get an equivalent education at home?
Hard to believe, if country-of-origin is large and civilised, such as
India, and they obviously have the funds to pay for education.

(b) An Australian degree is superior to one at home?
Would any of them admit it?

(c) There is chance of permanent residency?
Ah, yes!

Meanwhile, the poor old Aussie educational establishments, starved of funds
under the benevolent Coalition, have been reduced to mere Brain Factories
for dispensing Meal Tickets - and need the money.

Great strategy!
We get to apply selection criteria not once, but twice.

It's not rubbish.

12+ years of being starved of funds (plus no obvious yield yet from the change of govt) has
meant that the universities are hugely dependant upon this income stream.

Like saying Commbank is dependent on selling mortages. Duh. More than 12
years ago, the universities planned to enter new markets in exactly this
way. They have done so and it has been very successful. Limp-wristed
pinko socialists think that everyone needs welfare.

"This is the recession we had to have!"
- Paul Keating explaining why he gave Australia another Labour recession.

"Silly old bugger!"
- Well known ACTU pisspot and sometime Labour prime minister Bob Hawke
responding to a pensioner who dared ask for more.

"By 1990, no child will live in poverty"

- Egotistical shithead and pompous fuckwit E.G. Whitlam whining about his

# Back in 1950s, when Pig Iron Bob was in power, the universities were well
funded, and scholarships readily available - mainly due to Depression years
kids then maturing, but also because Bob Menzies, whatever his faults, was a
true "liberal" where unis were concerned.
It was a time when any Australian kid who wanted to get to uni, could do
so, and such few overseas students as existed were assisted by the Colombo
Plan.
The disgusting HECS system hadn't been dreamed up, so that you now
emerge from uni saddled with massive debt - and serve you right too.
Of course, those suckers of the Plutocracy, the hard-working,
doff-your-hat, Right-wing mugs, will go along with letting the Rich rip them
off, but there's a limit to what society, as a whole, will tolerate - whence
the much-vaunted Education Revolution.
But even a conservative Labour Party can't appease the Establishment, so
death by a thousand cuts is now implemented - or, to speed things up, go
straight for the jugular.... Ain't plutocratic democracy marvellous!

Being "well funded" was great but the funding has to come from
somewhere. Isn't is better if the Universities are self-funding?

Universities are not a finite resource. There should be no contention
between local places and overseas places.

We have this fantastic resource and capability - what on earth is the
matter with turning it into an export?
